Pune Metro: 3-coach train arrives; trial run to start soon

The trial run of the Pune Metro will take place soon as a three-coach train with a capacity of 900 passengers has arrived from Nagpur, a statement from the Maharashtra chief minister’s office said on December 28, 2019. A replica coach was unveiled by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on the same day.

The coaches were made of stainless steel, light-weight and vestibuled, and one coach in the Metro train would be reserved for women, the statement read. Work on the Pune Metro began in June 2017 and works like erecting pillars, track laying, installing signals, etc., were completed in a record 30 months. The groundbreaking of the line from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar was done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Pune Metro: Department of Economic Affairs signs Euro 245 million credit facility framework

The Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) and the French Development Agency (AFD), on January 28, 2019, signed a credit facility framework agreement, for extending bilateral funding to the tune of Euro 245 million, towards the Pune Metro Project. Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MAHA-METRO), a 50:50 joint venture between the Indian government and the Maharashtra government, is currently executing the Pune Metro Project.

The estimated project cost is Rs 11,420 crores, of which the loan component is Rs 5,831.5 crores. The loan component is to be funded by the European Investment Bank and the AFD. The current credit facility signing between DEA and AFD would be to extend bilateral funding to the tune of Euro 245 million to fund the Pune Metro Project, a statement issued from the French side said.
