“The online payment modes are easy and getting a good response from citizens. The PMC raked in Rs 1,100 crore in the last fiscal. More than Rs 500 crore was paid via online modes,” Vilas Kanade, head of PMC’s property tax department, said.

The target for the financial year 2017-18 was Rs 1,816 crore. The civic body mopped up around Rs 1,200 crore through property tax collection in 2016-17. The target for 2018-19 is Rs 1,810 crore.
Civic officials said they had expected revenue from property owners in the newly merged villages. The civic body earned nearly Rs 12 core from these villages. As per the data, 1.42 lakh properties are listed in the 11 merged villages.

Revenue from property tax hit a controversy after a hike was proposed by the elected members cutting across party lines. Earlier, civic activists had opposed the hike, saying that it would not help fill the coffers in the long run.
They had instead demanded steps to recover dues from errant property owners. The general body rejected the hike proposal.
